APOPKA, Fla. —

George Zimmerman was charged with assault Monday after his girlfriend called deputies to the home where they were living and claimed he pointed a shotgun at her during an argument, authorities said.

The girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, called 911 in the early afternoon to say that Zimmerman had smashed a glass table, threatened her with the shotgun and ultimately pushed her out of the house, according to an arrest report. After pushing her out, Zimmerman barricaded the door with furniture and refused to leave, saying that he would talk to police by phone, authorities said.

The arrest was the latest legal problem for Zimmerman since he was acquitted in July of criminal charges in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teen. The case sparked accusations that Zimmerman had racially profiled Martin and led to nationwide debates over the so-called Stand Your Ground defense laws in Florida and other states.

"You point your gun at my fricking face," Samantha Scheibe is heard telling Zimmerman on a 911 call. "Get out of my house. Do not push me out of my house. Please get out of my house."

Seconds later, she told the dispatcher, "You kidding me? He pushed me out of my house and locked me out. ... He knows how to do this. He knows how to play this game."

Moments later, Zimmerman called 911 from inside the barricaded house to tell his side of the story.

"I have a girlfriend, who for lack of a better word, has gone crazy on me," Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman then said he never pulled a gun on his girlfriend, and that it was Scheibe who smashed a table at the home they shared. He also told the dispatcher that Scheibe was pregnant with their child and that she had decided she would raise the child on her own. When Zimmerman started to leave, "she got mad," he said.

Seminole County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chief Dennis Lemma said at a news conference that Scheibe wasn't pregnant.

Deputies used a key provided by Scheibe to unlock the door and they were able to push through the barricade of items, Lemma said.

"She was very concerned for her own safety especially having the weapon pointed at her and then being pushed out," he said.

Lemma says Zimmerman was compliant and unarmed when deputies came to the house.

"The easiest way to describe it is rather passive. Clearly, he's had the opportunity to encounter situations similar to this in the past," he said.

Zimmerman was charged with domestic aggravated assault with a weapon, domestic battery and criminal mischief. His first court appearance was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. He will be housed in a single-person cell and guards will check on him hourly, Lemma added.

George Zimmerman, conservative hero – what a guy.

Isn’t it odd that Zimmerman’s ex-wife and now his girl friend have accused him of domestic violence and a cousin accused him of raping her over a period of ten years, not to mention other scrapes with the law, which his judge father made go away, yet all the conservatives believed he had no malice toward Trayvon Martin until Martin chose to defend himself?

The woman involved here doesn’t deserve that kind of treatment, but I have to wonder why she would have been attracted to Zimmerman in the first place. It’s like women that marry convicted killers in prison. I guess it’s true that some just like the bad boys.

Sad and troubling. Could have easily turned into another tragedy. I hope Zimmerman gets the help he needs.

In my opinion, these girls (his wife or ex-wife, and girlfriend) are just using him to get THEIR 15 minutes of fame. He needs to watch out what kind of people he’s letting into his life. I’m not trying to say he’s completely innocent. It’s just that he’s infamous and people can latch on to that to get in the spotlight.

George Zimmerman’s wife Shellie seeks divorce

      By Max Ehrenfreund,September 06, 2013

The wife of George Zimmerman, who was acquitted in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin after a murder trial that became the focus of a national debate on race, is filing for divorce from her husband. According to court documents, Shellie Zimmerman, 26, and her husband separated Aug. 13. She told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that her husband has only spent a few nights at home since his acquittal in July.

In the interview with ABC, Shellie Zimmerman explained some of her reasons for wanting to leave her husband. “I have a selfish husband, and I think George is all about George,” she said, adding that he spoke abusively to her and that the highly public trial had ruined her life.

She also said that her husband has been making “some reckless decisions.” Police have stopped Zimmerman twice for speeding since his acquittal. He was traveling at 60 mph in a 45 mph zone in Lake Mary, Fla., on Tuesday, police said.
He was also pulled over in Texas in July. Opinion writer Jonathan Capehart describes that incident:

George Zimmerman, the killer of Trayvon Martin, was found not guilty of second-degree murder last month. But I find him guilty of committing the super-obnoxious “don’t you know who I am?!” offense.

The free man who went underground after his July 13 acquittal was stopped for speeding by Texas highway patrol. When asked by the officer where he was headed, Zimmerman can be heard in the dashcam video replying, “Nowhere in particular.” That struck the patrolman curious so he asked why.

Zimmerman: You didn’t see my name?

      Officer: Nuh-uh. … What a coincidence!

Yeah, what a coincidence. The former neighborhood watch volunteer who killed Trayvon with a concealed weapon also had a concealed weapon with him in his truck. “Go ahead and shut your glove compartment,” the officer told him. “Don’t play with your firearm.” The weapon at the center of his trial is still in federal custody. Zimmerman was let off with only a warning.

Even though Zimmerman didn’t try to make a big deal of it, you’d think the man who has to live in hiding because he fears for his safety would keep a lower profile. Driving like an extra from “Fast and Furious” was bound to attract attention.

That reasoning would only apply to the current girlfriend, since Zimmerman’s infamy started with the killing of Trayvon Martin. Anybody romantically involved with him prior to that would have to be given a pass on the fifteen minutes of fame excuse.

I see your point, but who’s to say that he and his wife (ex-wife) weren’t having problems before the Trayvon incident? It’s possible she didn’t decide until AFTER that to accuse him of things and bring their problems into the spotlight. Anyway, this guy’s romantic life should be the least of his problems. I just think it’s kind of ironic, though, that for such a “loose cannon” he hooked up with someone else so quickly after his divorce.

I think Zimmerman should be careful. I hear Florida has one of those “stand your ground” laws and someone might feel threatened.
